Biography
Austin-based musician, bandleader, and songwriter, Johnny McGowan is known throughout the Texas music scene for his energetic showmanship and TWANGy takes on ‘50–’70s inspired boot-scootin’ classics. He leads a group of seasoned musicians in Johnny McGowan’s Rugged Gents, a mainstay at dancehalls across the Lone Star state.
Paying homage to classic country greats like Ernest Tubb, Dave Dudley, and Glen Campbell, Johnny maintains the roots of the genre for today’s audiences.
With his honest approach on social media, he has attracted over 50,000 fans from all across the globe. Taking followers on his journey sharing stories about his songs, his playing and his gear; including his beloved and embattled 'Betsy' - a modified vintage 1958 Silvertone archtop guitar he turned electric.
Featuring 13 original tracks, Hill Country Waltz is Johnny's latest LP drawing accolades from critics and listeners alike.
